Update
Wow- What a couple of months it has been. These past months have been filled with great excitement for seeing God move in mighty ways but also filled with great doubt as we struggle to adjust to a new life in a mysterious place.
In this last month, we have finished working on our house. This was a big priority for us because we are filled with hospitality and use our home, especially the kitchen, to love on people. We've had several guests over for meals. We continue to help out our neighbors in different ways. We have helped two different neighbors lay sod and shovel tons and tons of landscape rock. Each time I shoveled rock I remembered my dad say, "Son, this is why you go to school and get a degree". We have some neighbors that are elderly and we love helping them out.
We have been blessed to spend more and more time with our neighbors, Josh and Adriene. They are good people to spend time with and they have 3 kids of their own. You should see all our kiddos (6 in total) running around making a ruckus. It really is a beautiful sight.
We continue to get to know the area more and more. During the spring and summer seasons Spokane is a great city for events. This past week we went to an event called "Pig out in the Park". There were over 40 different food venders and 3 different music stages. Then a few days later we met some friends in the park, where the Spokane Symphony put on a free concert in the park. The music was beautiful.
Kao and Tanya have been blessed with amazing jobs. Kao was just offered a full time job at Target. He works as a cashier and gets all sorts of opportunities to talk with people. Some of them have actually connected with us because they met him at Target. He is definitely salt and light where ever he is at. Tanya has been blessed with an amazing job. It is actually better than the job she left in Redding and that job was really good. She gets to love on and provide resources for those here in Spokane who suffer from mental illnesses and chemical dependency. She's had some great conversations with her co-workers about faith. Please pray for her though, while it is a great job, it is a very tuff line of work. There are definitely dark spiritual forces that she has to deal with.
Most recently we had our "Welcome back/Bless the college student outreach". We got to go to the church and ministry fair at Whitworth and connect with lots of college students. We did something very similar at the Redding Vineyard with Simpson University. While Whitworth and Simpson are both Christian universities these colleges are worlds apart. We did not have the turnout like we did at Simpson but for those college students that showed up on Sunday it was a great time. I have attached a picture of the gal who won the I-Pad. Her name is Abi. She was blessed beyond belief. Thank you for helping to make this happen. I have also attached the winners of some of the smaller raffle prized too. It really was a great time.
Prayer/Needs
Noah and Jaicee started school, 2nd grade and kindergarten. Crazy how time fly's. Please pray for their school experience, their teachers, and making new friends. Noah also started soccer. Please pray he does not get hurt. Since I left my nice job with benefits at Caltrans we no longer have any health insurance. Actually, just pray none of the kids get sick or hurt.
Please pray for our marriage. We are good but we definitely want to be covered in prayer always.
Pray for wisdom and discernment for building a community of saints here in this place. Spokane is not Redding. There is a different mindset here.
Please pray for a job that I (Jason) applied for at Gonzaga. It is a coordinator for the University Ministry department. If I get the job I would get to minister to all the Gonzaga students and the position is only 10 months a year. This looks like it could be the one.
Monthly financial support continues to come in. It is not what we need for me not to work but it definitely has helped and gives us a few months to solely focus on building the kingdom here in Spokane. We love you and bless you all. Thank you for supporting us. We could not do what we do or be the people we are without you all in our lives!
If any one wants to skype or facetime we would love to see your beautiful faces and we always welcome those that want to visit!
Peace & Grace,
Vineyard 509
